Subject : Launch of GeoMGNREGA Wave-I w.e.f September 1st, 2016

Dear Sir/Madam,

As you are aware that Ministry of Rural Development has initiated project on Photo Geotagging of Mahatma Gandhi NREGA Assets on 24th June, 2016. The pilots were launched from 1st August 2016 onwards in one Gram Panchayats of GIS Pioneer Districts of each of the 28 States. The pilots were successful in finalising the user requirements, mobile and web solution. Now National Remote Sensing Centre has intimated that the present mobile app is tested, functional and usable for deploying in the field for operational use. Further, the development of Web GIS Bhuvan portal is now completed.

2. The NIRD & PR had successfully conducted nationwide training with the help of GeoMGNREGA Regional Resource Persons nominated from States/ SIRDs. District GIS Nodal Officers, Gram Rojgar Sahayaks / Technical Assistants, Block level Officials were all imparted training on the use of GeoMGNREGA solution for wave-I.

3. As per the original schedule, from 1st of September 2016, GeoMGNREGA will be launched in all the Gram Panchayats of wave-I (list of Wave-I District attached). The MGNREGA Spatial Enumerator (MSE) can now download their current data of Gram Panchayats in their Mobile phones and start capturing the photographs and Latitude / Longitude of the completed assets under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA. The GIS Asset Supervisor (GAS) should start validating the assets uploaded by MSE through the online portal. Though the Geotag can be uploaded/validated during this time, the web portal will not be made available for General Viewing during this wave-I period. This wave will be called as GeoHome.

4. To ensure smooth rollout of the GeoLive, each State will constitute State Level “GeoMGNREGA Working Group”, headed by Principal Secretary / Secretary looking after Mahatma Gandhi NREGA as the chairman during GeoHome. This working group will consist of officials from Wave-I Districts DPCs, DGNOs and other officials as deemed fit. The working group will resolve all issues pertaining to assets mapping, geo coordinates, picture validation and data consistency during this GeoHome period. The working group notification should be sent to MoRD. This working group will hold one or more meetings and the final preparedness report for GeoLive should be submitted to MoRD on 24th October 2016 on email to The assets coordinates and photographs will be made available for General viewing w.e.f 1st Nov 2016 for Wave-I and GeoMGNREGA will go ‘GeoLive’ from this date.
